Information Behavior of Elites in the Search of Knowledge Requirement

Abstract: Information behavior is one of the important research fields in the knowledge management. It could be considered as an effective factor in design, development and evaluation of data mining applications. This paper introduces an approach called elite information behavior in response to educational and research evolutions. This research is quantitative and tries to investigate the different information seeking behavior in academic society. A questionnaire is prepared to collect data in a course of one month. The sampling population included 156 samples from M.Sc. and Ph.D. students and professors from engineering faculty (41.8%), science faculty (44%) and humanities faculty (14.2%). We try to find a number of indicators for intelligence data, and assess the relationship between the indicators. The results showed that most of the academic people use "essay and research report". After that, "library databases", "references introduced by lecturers" and "personal archives", are the frequently accessed resources. "Consult with librarians”, "participation in social network discussions" and "consult and communication with colleagues" are the least important part of the resources used.
